If you have been there you are going to be doing a lot more than cringing. You are going to be in pain. I know because I go back there sometimes to clean and it's not pretty. And I am only 5'8.

Which seems to be made out of some sort of Vinyl material, instead of the 'Double Duck' Tonneau as used on the 'Gothic Style pre-face lift cars'

I am about the replace the top on my '90 XJS and am giving serious consideration to not installing the padded headliner. This would allow the top to fold a little flatter. Then I would make a new cover that fits lower and tighter.

Its about time these cars are starting to sell at what they are worth! New it cost $80,000 in 1996. Now they are classics and should be selling for around 30-40k IMO. Its built like a tank. Drives as smooth as a 2015 vehicle. Everything on it is very high quality. Not to mention head turners everywhere you go because nothing is even remotely like it.
Seriously I think 15-40k is what the facelift is worth.

Except, of course for the vinyl part of the leather seats and trim, and the plastic bezels and trim, and the sun visor clips, and of course the speakers, and the convertible tonneau cover, and door handle assembly, and the plasticky parts of the steering wheel....

I'm 99% sure that everyone who contributes to the XJS section likes the XJS....or even loves the XJS. I know I loved mine! Gawd, what a car!
That, however, shouldn't stop me from mentioning the faults, foibles, and failures
Jaguar was notorious for building down to a price back in the day. Lots of high grade beautiful stuff....and then 89-cent window switches and non-sealed bullet connectors! Gah!
Cheers

I will give you the speakers. They are crap. The whole stereo system sucks.

I agree with you... LOL. But they were not the only manufacturer that messed up with cheap parts. I have an itch to buy a new car but my current 2006 Lexus LS 430 runs and drives so well, its hard to buy a new one. LOL. Lexus made this car just about perfect and it may last forever. I wish Jag did the same with the XJS. Oh well.
