This is my 2nd xjs convertible. the first was a '93. The '96 came up used with 13K miles so I traded. NO REGRETS! It's been awesome. reliable. love it. parts are expensive and or hard to come by...but I've managed thus far.
happy to be reading everyone's XJS posts.
thanks all

my '96 XJS convertible is a 4.0...the last batch made of the design pre-Ford acquisition. (Not that I'm an expert). The mileage is now 81072....
I was just reading about intermittent electronics..a thread about switches and oxidization. I'm having some issues with the back left triangular roof window. It is not responding-this is not a new issue-and when I had a fantastic guy who does upholstery patch my passenger set (Rudy's custom roof tops in LA! awesome)-he helped me take out the rear seat and have a look at what was going on behind the panel. He cleaned the contacts and it seemed to work for a while..but now it's back to frozen. I tried to do the same thing yesterday but couldn't pull the side panel behind which the window resides, out. got to figure out what screw or lever I didn't see and go back at it.
anyway- the thread I was reading said that the '$20' switches were ones to be wary of...I bought two window switches on ebay that I haven't installed now for fear.
I've got to take some pix....the only one I have handy is of her dashboard when she turned 80,000 miles..

There are 4 relays controlling the rear windows. "up","down" for left and right. These can become problematic, so ideally you want to replace them all. Access.... I'm not sure. I don't have rear seats in my car so the relays are easy to get to (they are inside the cubby box)
It's a great idea to get a workshop manual for the XJS.... Either the paperback ROM (repair operations manual) or one of the CDRoms from JDHT
