245/50/17 Tire size - at all doable?
I'm looking to changing my wheels out to a set of XK8 Revolvers.
I understand a 235/50/17 tire size is recommend / needed to prevent or mitigate tire rub.
However, I'm wondering if the stock XK8 tire size of 245/50/17 is at all doable without causing any real damage?
A few of the Revolvers for sale come with decent original XK8 tires and IF I can use them as is for a bit while working on other aspects of the car that will free up some expendable cash.
My car is a 1978 XJ-S coupe.
At all doable to use 245/50/17 tires?
Thanks,
Steve

The only issue is the offset of your and the new wheels. 10mm tire difference in width is miniscule for the most part. Manufactures never fill the wheel wells with max tire sizes. To determine the differnce in tires us the spec section online for most tire sellers like discount tires, etc. Plug in manufacture and tire size then look at specs. Keep in mind that when you look at different tire brands of the same tire size, they will not be same exact dimensions so use the spec info. On my 04 xj i went from the original 18's with 235 50 18 to 20's from a xfr staggered fitment. In the rear 305 30 20 from a ftype r, and a 255 35 20 front. Nothing rubs and hangs in hard hi speed corners fantastic and looks great

They will be ok.... I know 245/45/17 will certainly work. Track tested on XJR wheels which have the same 33mm offset too. A 50 series is only slightly taller and I'd consider it becasue the 45 series weren't close and would offer a less sporty ride.

255-40-18 would be almost identical to the factory diameter 255/45's would be a bit taller. i plan to go with 255/40's for my next set of rear tires ill probably run 245/45's on the front. on my next set.

I had xk8s with 245/50/17s. I used spacers upfront which helped but they definitely rubbed behind and in front of the tires when wheels turned. They’re just so wide! I loved the width and look but just wanted stock feel back. If anyone wants them I have them for sale. 5 revolvers With pzeros $250 👀
