3.6 Oil pressure reading

Hello,
I’ve noticed that the oil pressure reading on my ‘86 3.6 cat is living its own life. Sometimes, I get a reasonable reading at idle, which drops to zero as soon as I hit the gas. Sometimes, I get a low reading. Sometimes, I get nothing. There is oil in the sump, according to the dipstick. The idiot light is also functional (lights up on startup) and doesn’t come on while driving. The car is a well driven example with some 170k miles on the clock, and it does mark its territory, but it isn’t leaking/eating any obscene amounts of oil.
I’m wondering if I can chalk it up to a faulty sender and get to it whenever I get to it, or if I should start getting worried…

I suppose that “no clatter, no matter”, and that I still have the presumably functional idiot light. Still, I’ll probably get the shop to do a manual pressure test, just for peace of mind. Not going to touch the 40 year old electronics unless I absolutely have to.
