Default 6.0 crankshaft.

I need to buy a 6.0V12 and as usual I’m shopping the junkyards and back lots. I know how to spot a 6.0 at a glance but what I don’t know is when Ford Switched from the standard EN 40B forging crankshaft to their sintered Iron crankshaft. It was sometime in 1994-5?
Anybody know approximately which engine number?

Mguar,

I had written previously that the crank changed to a chill casting for the introduction of the x300 saloon which used a derivation of the engine with EDIS-type ignition. I believed then that the first engine was number 12471. If one equates that to the XJS build times (which never used the EDIS system) then that would be roughly XJS VIN 199400.

Hope that helps

Paul

Thank You Paul.

Then I can reasonably assume any engine number prior to that is likely the forging?
Luckily it will come completely apart before being rebuilt and put to work. But that Forged crankshaft is an absolute must.

In simple terms:

- if it's an EDIS-ignition engine, then it's out of an XJ12 saloon and it's a chill casting
- if it's out of an XJS, any engine out of a car built before Jan 95 will probably have a forged crank

As I understand, the US took hardly any 6.0 XJS after Jan 95 anyway, so the chances of finding a chill casting engine seem pretty remote, don't they?

Good luck

Paul

Special order only for the 1995 model year, not available in 1996, so very few are around in the USA.
