'76 XJS need wire locating help
I can't find a wire in the engine bay to supply keyed run & start 12v power for an HEI distributor. I can run it off of the Alt. but then have to disconnect to kill the engine.
Yes, this car's been "Americanized" (GM 350/350) and I'm trying to get it drivable to better determine it's future. PO said it had an engine fire but it looks like the wiring isn't too bad.
Questions:
#1 All of the wiring, even under dash is tape wrapped; could that be original?
#2 I can't find a color coded wiring diagram that I can read. Anyone here have one for this year to share?
Thanks

I don't have a '76 diagram in front of me but the Jags back then were pretty consistant in wiring colors code.
Solid white wires are usually "key on" 12v
Solid brown wires are 12v constant
White/yellow at the starter relay is 12v from the switch in "start"
White/red from the starter relay goes to the starter solenoid to engage the starter
My older Jags had taped harnesses under the dash. In the engine bay some harnesses were tape wrapped and others were cloth covered
Cheers
