86 XJS v12- driving with open exhaust?

I had to replace the transmission spring support bushing on my 86, which required loosening the exhaust. It turned out that the exhaust was pretty rusted out and when I put it back together it had lots of leaks. I had to adjust the support bushing so took it all apart again. I was given a good exhaust from a friend who is doing a v8 conversion, but don't have enough room to install it (car has front wheels on ramps, but rear is still to low.
Now to my question - the exhaust has the exhaust manifolds, downpipes and cat converters, but is wide open after that. Can I drive it this way 3 miles to the muffler shop to pay them to put the exhaust back on? I've heard in the past that driving with "open headers" can allow cold air into the exhaust and result in burning a valve.
Any input is appreciated!
