Default 90 VJS Conv.

How do you remove the quarter window motor? I followed the instructions in Volume 4 of the XJS Service Manual 76.81.02 to Renew the Rear Quarter Window - Convertible but cant get anything to budge. I need to remove the motor assembly in order to assist in snaking the EFI main harness from the trunk into the passenger compartment.

I think that I have all the bolts securing the motor, but it will not budge.

Anyone have any words of wisdom?

R/H quarter window motor with what I think are all bolts securing the motor removed

A VJS is an XJS owned by someone that can't type.

Don't know if you solved this yet BUT...

What I sometimes do when I get stumped is google an image of the part removed from the car. EBay is great for this as it will show many different angles of the part removed. In the link below you will find 9 or 10 images of the part off the car. Might be helpful....

The motor is bolted on the back of the regulator, those bolts are difficult to remove from the side shown. I've parted quite a few XJS' that have been wreaked and I've always had to remove the glass first to get the regulator out. Then once the regulator is out you can replace the motor but in your case access the harness path.

I'll show myself out.

There was a fourth bolt not visible behind the top hydraulic cylinder. Once I removed that bolt, I was able to slide the regulator out of the track and remove the regulator and motor.

Regulator and motor still in place

The fourth bolt that I could not see

Well done. Where there’s a will there’s a way.
