92 XJS 5.3 V12 thermostat replacement
I want to replace the thermostats in my 92 XJS 5.3 V12 using the correct thermostats with the jiggle pin. Can someone please give me the part number as the two I just bought do not have the jiggle pin. Also, am I right in thinking I need 180f thermostats?
Thanks guys.

This might help

Lack of jiggle pins isn't the end of the world as the thermostat can be drilled to give a steam relief passage.
More important is getting the right length so the rear disc can close off the coolant bypass passageway.
Some use a 180ºF; others use the 195(ish)ºF. They're more commonly listed as 82ºC or 88ºC. I've used both ratings. If you're having an actual overheating problem (are you?), the lower rated thermostat won't solve it.

Having the part numbers is nice but even that apparently doesn't guarantee anything. I just ordered a pair of JA-EBC3576 and got a very nice waxstat with the jiggle pin and one unbranded "made in England" without. Ever so slightly shorter too. In the same box.
Best of luck!

Very frustrating. It's just about impossible to know what you are buying thee days.
Hopefully one of more of "the usual Jag suppliers" will see this and take note. If there's enough demand for the 'real thing' maybe they'll climb on board and stock up .
To their credit SNG Barrat did so a couple years ago with OEM X300 coils.

Or buy direct from Jaguar, rather than oem to be sure of correct part

XJS Thermostats
Thanks Doug,
I just unpacked my Thermostats from DavidManners Uk..
82 Degrees.. But No Jiggle Pin.. Im going to assume this is a NO NO !!!!..
Wont be refitting today :-(
Great article on Thermostat Basics btw ..
My Housing seat depths are about 42-43mm.
The Thermostats removed are both English WAXSTAT 88 degree units WITH Jiggle pins.. I Don't know how long or how old they are... so even though they cook up ok, they're not going back in..
Off to Shops to see if Anyone has Tridon TT228-180's...
Cheers

Just back from super-or-not cheap, amd Sprints
None in stock today..
BUT Tridon now listing Jag V12 item as TT233-180 or TT2033-180 ..?
TT2033-180 - Thermostat High Flow | Tridon
THE DAYCO Item measures much more like the the 4 I have..
So to confirm... 82 Degree WITH THe Jiggler ? is what I need ?
Will Probably finish up at Sovereign Auto on Monday :-) Quoted about $28 for Tridon... @ Sprints..

Yes
82 degrees with jiggler. You can always just drill a 4mm hole in the Manners ones you have, about 8mm in from the rim. This will be no different from fitting one with a hole with a jiggler in it. Fit the hole so it is at the top of the opening in the casting you fit the thermostat into.

As Greg has said.
I rarely find any that are long enough for my liking that have a jiggle pin, so I drill a hole in the disc, install that stat with that hole at 12 o'clock.
Did the same with both the X300 cars also, and the warm and fuzzies that the system is actually able to bleed any air at any time is priceless.
As I have said many times, and you are aware of it Paul, is the open length, and that is more critical than many believe.

First place I look is Rockauto.com. They have the best prices and you know the total landed cost to Canada. For things they don't have, I use SNG Barrat from the UK. Things come DHL, and they give the shipping before I commit. There is a DHL's fee and GST when it arrive, their fee is usually about $17. it's not too bad for a larger order.
