If you haven't fixed this, try lifting the door by the handle. I have a 93 and this happened to me once and I had someone open it, but he damaged the fascia. There is a small metal clip inside that another clip on the door must clear. Try lifting the door and opening or push the door down and opening. I hope that helps. paul

Got it open
Thanks for the tip Paul. I did get the glove box (aka cubby) open but in this case I had to pry it down. On the lock cylinder there is a nub that sticks out the end opposite the key that engages a sliding tab that goes behind the catch plate when the door is closed. Rotating the lock makes that nub pull the tab down to clear the catch plate and the door opens. On my car the nub broke off the lock cylinder so the tab was permanently un the "up" or latched postion. Prying down very carefully with a wide flat bar where the glove box door meets the catch plate flexed the door down far enough for that tab to clear and the door opened. Then I removed the lock cylinder, drilled a small hole where the nub broke off and inserted a tiny screw to mimick the nub. I ground the head of the screw down a bit so it was the same size as the nub. Then I assembled it and it works just fine.
