HA, in tank pump, PITA for real. Consume MUCH alcohol, things will clear up.
I have had the tank out of our '85 coupe numerous times for fume issues, and it is no walk in the park, a LOT of items require removal, or tieing up out of the way, and holding ones mouth at the right angle is paramount to success. At least the "Beasts" pump is external, and a whole 10 minutes to swap out.
I am about to do this same task on my X300, and it also looks like a PITA.
Why an access hole was never provided in the cars for this task is beyond me, fuel pumps die, FACT, and we have to replace them, as no one wants to scrap the car because a fuel pump fails.
