1199greg,
Sorry, I'm not an expert but I have no idea why someone would diagnose a TPS with the symptoms that you describe.
Your car is OBDII compliant. Go to a mechanic who actually understands XJSs and get the problem diagnosed properly.
I wouldn't order anything until someone can explain clearly and show you why a part is necessary.
Your symptoms, as you've described them, sound more like a torque converter issue than anything to do with the engine.
Good luck
Paul

IMO the one downside of the AJ16 because of its early OBD2 system, is that it won't give you a code for things that need to be replaced. When my TPS was bad, the failure mode was the car totally shutting down at speed(like on the freeway going at 70). I hooked up my OBD2 reader. Nothing. I had it tested by my trusted mechanic on the bench. It came up "good". I finally decided to throw a TPS based on a educated guess. No shutdowns for 2 or 3 years, can't remember. I intend on always having the car, so when something goes wrong I just indiscriminately throw new parts at it. The more new parts the better as far as I am concerned.
The TPS is a common failure on AJ16 cars along with the ignition coils, crank sensor and coolant temp sensor. My advise to anyone buying a AJ16 Jaguar is to also buy all those parts brand new to avoid a lot of wasted time and potential shutdowns.
Just a piece of friendly advise, in the future if you order from jaguarclassicparts.com in England it will typically run much cheaper. Even taking delivery into account

And of course remember that Jaguar Classic Parts IS Jaguar. So if you order the Part via your local Jaguar dealer for collection there us no shipping charge. Any of the independent parts suppliers who sell genuine jaguar parts are buying them from Jaguar Classic Parts so you might as well buy direct.

Well that's in England. Over here if you try to order the part thru the dealer you will be paying much more. But like I mentioned even with shipping to the U.S. taken into account, it's more cost efficient

MArk,
Jaguar have previously confirmed to us only a few months ago that ordering via US Jaguar Dealers for collection at the dealership means there are no shipping costs charged when parts are ordered in this way. It's only if you order online for delivery to your home address that there will be shipping costs. In fact, they have distribution warehouses in the US, so parts may already be on your side of the water when they are ordered via the dealer, which should further cut down delivery times as well.
Hope that helps
