'95 XJS - Won't Start - Lots of idiot lights (Solved)
Hi All,
I've been putting my 1995 XJS back together (new carpet/leather/etc) over the past several weeks. The check engine light has been on for some time and the code was P1400 (EGR valve). Mine was full of carbon even after I cleaned it well, so I replaced it today. The car ran a little better but the check engine light was still on. Water had found its way into the passenger floorboard so I thought I would clean the ECU connections just to be safe. I disconnected the battery and took the ECU out and cleaned the connections with electrical connector spray. I let it dry and hooked it all back up.
Now, the transmission, check engine, and low oil lights all come on when I turn the key and it won't start. It turns but isn't firing at all. I've unhooked the ECU several times to make sure I have a good connection (with the battery unplugged). Any ideas? Did I fry the ECU? My wife says I should have left it alone. :-( I think she was right.
Thanks,
Ray

Okay, so I couldn't sleep thinking about this problem. I pulled out the electrical diagrams to see what would cause the transmission and low oil pressure lights to come on. Guess what it was? The inertia switch!!! I guess I bumped it too hard when I was removing the trim panel to get to the ECU. Lesson learned!
Good night!
