happy new year
cleveland, oh
i have a 96 xj6 130k automatic
the problem;
when driving the other day the I noticed alternator gauge not charging
then the light show started
battery light comes on
the anti-lock light comes on
the transmission light (on the upper left of instrument panel) comes on
pull into work
shut off car
battery is dead; charge up
car starts, but now tranny not going into 1st gear? like starting out in 2nd?
and not shifting into drive
fluids check out ok
restart car and now all warning lights off and tranny shifting like normal
next day the xj6 drives just fine
new years eve : 8pm
the same exact things happens again
I don't think this is a repair I can do, but any help will be great so I get an idea what this repair might involve
any help will be appreciated
thanks

railmutt, figure out what is going on with the alternator. Odds are you simply need a new alternator (based on age of car and the periodic battery light). As for the tranny acting funny and the light show, welcome to the world of computer and low voltage. You get the alternator issue fixed, the rest of the lights will fix themselves.
As for locating a dealership, I have ordered many a part from the dealership right there in Cleveland (gotta support my fellow Buckeyes). They will bend over backwards for you and atleast through the internet, their prices are some of the lowest you will find for a dealership (and most parts places).
