ABS light on

ABS light on
Dear Jag friends,
the anti-lock light comes on in my XSJ 4.0 1996 Convertible. Not immediately after starting the engine but after a few meters of driving.
Where do I find the ABS control module in the car and do I also have to check the ECM (where can I find this one in the car?)?
Thanks in advance for help!
Andreas

Does the light stay on, or does it go off after some driving.
The ABS computer is under the hood, on the passengers side, closest to the windshield.
I have a similar problem, and I attempted to fix a common solder joint problem on the chip board, however it did not solve my problem.
The next common fix is to check the wheel sensors. I decided to purchase a Jaguar specific scantool that can read C codes. I'll let you know what I learn when I get the tool.

As I mentioned before, there is a common issue with the ABS computer that seems to occur in all cars with the Teves IV ABS system. You may want to look into that. It did not solve my reoccurring issue, but I thought I'd put it out there.
When I get the tool, I will see what code is throws at me and update the forum.

Light is out
Ok, after I read the posts in this and other fora, I did the following:
1) Pull the hand brake firmly a few times (and, of course, release it again)
2) Rattle the ABS module and the relais gently (in case there are poor contacts)
and since then, the light is out.
I know, this is not very technical, but it worked, therefore I wanted to share it. If the light comes back on, I'll let you know that this was rubbish.

I have the same problem in my '95 and now that I am retired I will soon have time to discover the cause. However, in the past info has been passed along that one/more of the solenoids in the solenoid block have the ribbon cable connecting them to the ABS controller detach (age, mileage) and can be re-soldered to make the repair. A search should locate any past threads on this.

I have a 95 4.0 and my ABS light came on a couple weeks ago.
I turned off the ignition and started the car again in hopes it would go away but the light came back on after a moment. But that only happened one day; it hasn't come on since and I've driven the car several times since. If it comes on again, I'll try the parking brake thing and the shaking thing. I'll respond to this post if that worked.

The tool does work on my car and did throw out two codes indicating a problem with the wheel speed sensor in the front passengers side of the car. (C1145 and C1148)
When time permits, i will take that sensor off, examine it and clean it up to see if it can be a cheap fix. If not, those things are pricey....

When removing my drivers side front wheel and rotor I found the wheel sensor pretty much covered in dirt and grease. My ABS light came on a few times but went back off. This was not the reason I removed the wheel though. I have a click in the front on a right turn and still haven't found the cause.
Anyway, it might be time well spent to clean those wheel sensors and pack the bearing while you are at it. An experienced wrench hand can do this job but is not for someone that is not familiar with the brake system.
