So do you think their ECU would just run a subset of commands? Would it completely replace the ECU we have in the car now?
This is the response I got from them when I asked about NA engines….“We essentially can run the NA AJ16 using the same loom & ECU.
We would only have a ‘loose’ base map unfortunately though. The only N/A Versions we have tuned, have been race engines with different exhausts, cams and induction. So you’d need to consider this.”

I have been offering remapped versions of the production Jaguar engine ECU for AJ16 engines for over 10 years, as I used to programme them when I worked for Jaguar in the mid-nighties. These reprogrammed ECU are normally for owners who want to run an AJ16 engine in a non Jaguar vehicle, or who have converted the car from automatic to manual transmission. Some owners have fitted supercharged engines to XJS cars originally fitted with naturally aspirated engine. I can programme any changes that an owner wants to make to the engine calibration, whilst retaining all of the driveability of the original calibration, that I helped to develop. No aftermarket engine management system can compete with the hundreds of man-hours that go into a production calibration, included testing down to -30degC, up to +40degC and at up to 12,000ft altitude. My reprogramming service is also significantly cheaper than the cost of any aftermarket ECU + harness + cost of time on a rolling road to crudely map it in a few hours. If you just want a bit more performance and better fuel economy, then I would strongly recommend fitting one of my revised crank sensor brackets. These increase the ignition advance by 5 degrees, and are more cost-effective than remapping. If you want to read more about my revised crank senor bracket, then go to the X300 forum and look amongst the most viewed posts for one about "DIY modification to improve performance and fuel economy". You will find many dozens of posts from satisfied customers.
