So the good news is I got the whole unit out and I found the fuse, which I changed (7.5).

The bad news is, still no chirps or anything alarm related for that matter by unhooking the battery or following the valet switch instructions. I did ask find an unused ground wire. Maybe from the bump sensor?

Could the alarm unit be bad?

Ok, so when its all plugged together does the red led either on the steering column or cigar lighter blink ? What is the part # on the alarm box and keyfob ?
Also the last 6 numbers of the vin. Does it have a build date on the door post ? The ground wire looks like the one that goes up to the antenna. look right up to where the antenna comes through the body and the cable joins the antenna and see if it is missing

Funny- I thought I replied to this post, but it must not have uploaded. Been waiting for a response and wondering if you guys gave up on me!

I don't appear to have an LED on the steering column or near the cigar lighter. So I wonder if the alarm is working at all. It seems from the forum that if the alarm is not working the car won't start so maybe it's been bypassed? Or maybe someone replaced the backup battery so I'm not leaving the battery unhooked long enough? I can't make out the number on the FOB and I don't see one on the alarm. Pics attached.

Car was built 2/93.
Last 4 VIN 187517

Given that everything works (I have read all the nightmare alarm posts about incessant chirping and car not starting), should i just look at an aftermarket solution for central locking as that's what I'm really after? As I understand it, the current central locking mechanism will not work without the alarm.

For some reason, my replies are not getting posted. I will try without the picture.

I don't have an led on the lighter or steering column.

The car was built in 3/93.

Last 6 VIN: 187517

On inspection of the unit, it looks like there may be some water stains.

Okay, the light is hard to see or find. It should be at about 10-11 o'clock on the column when facing your steering wheel. It is no bigger than the size of a LED. If you have a black column, like I do, use a flashlight to see it, especially if it isn't blinking. Aside from knowing that, Malc4d is the man who may be able to get you through this.

If you have a 318Mhz system then you might be able to use the one from my 94 donor car.
Everything worked on the system and i have a couple of fobs from that system.
Since I'm going to be away from the computer, please call or text me TOMORROW @ 650-455-1110.
Thanks,Stephen D'Angelo

I have a 92/93 with a fob that I have to beep-press every time I disconnect the battery ground cable. Seems to require a specific process. Open the door, wait for the alarm to beep, press the fob twice and repeat 2 more times. Maybe this will help.

Are you sure Dave. Have you tried disconnecting the ground wait a few then reconnect. The late ,93s had a different alarm than the ,92. early '93s would beep until you pressed the (a) fob after each beep. The backup battery is most probably gone the way of the Dodo.

Malc4d helped me sort out my alarm system on my '93 which still had the '92 alarm system installed. The biggest issue I found was that there is a fuse located on the wiring harness next to the antenna. It was blown but I never knew it existed until Malc4d intervened. Once that was replaced I followed the instructions and the system has worked fine ever since. Just disconnected the battery and then reconnected and pressed the remote after every beep for 5 beeps.

Many thanks for your help !!! I hope it works, engine won't start in the moment. It is a Daimler Double Six of the year 1992, with alarm and ABS. Engine stops working while on the motorway.

One thing that's not described well is the two unplugged yellow wires. If you plug them together it will arm the alarm after closing the last door automatically.

Greetings from the Seattle, Washington area!

I have a ‘94 AJ6. My car didn’t come with alarm remotes, so I bought two on eBay. I was able to program both of them and they worked just fine. For about a week. Then the car stopped recognizing them. I programmed them a second time and they worked again, but after about another week they stopped working. Ugh.

I bought a factory alarm key fob to try that. Now, I can’t get my car to recognize it or my eBay remotes. The car enters learning mode and continually beeps, but it won’t recognize the remotes. I know it sounds like it should be the key fob batteries. But they were new not that long ago.

So, I have two questions:

1: Why is my alarm losing contact with my remotes after they have worked for a week? Could a weak car battery do this? I do have a slow drain.

2: Why won’t my alarm when in learning mode recognize my remotes?

Thank you for any advice!
