Another speedometer question.

Another speedometer question.
I just bought this car and I've driven it about 500-600 miles total, When I bought it the odometer said just over 93,000 miles. Now, my odometer reads over 99,000 miles. The tripometer will only work when it wants to. I will check the wiring to my speedometer transducer, but I have a feeling that it's probably my cluster. I've taken out the cluster and cleaned all the connections I could get to. I also talked to a Jaguar mechanic and he said they it sounds like my odometer is running even when the car is sitting still (speedometer transducer??). Well, that's the bad news....now for the good news. I bought this car from a man who owned several Jaguars, so I don't know if he really new how many miles he had on this car. About every thing on this car appears to be original except the battery and everything seems to be in excellent shape. I did a compression check and the cylinders were all between 172lbs. and 178lbs.. It is a federal car. Anybody else very come across this problem before? Thanks!

Well, I've had quite a few people read this question and no responses, so I guess this is a new one to most. I'm not worried about it, my computer covers my tripometer and the odometer was almost pegged out when I bought the car. I also don't plan on selling it. Funny thing is now it may roll over and catch up to about where it should be. No big deal. Thanks!

RonaldP,
I went through all the repair orders the last owner gave me and even if the speedometer was acting up, it would not have been that much of a difference. what it looked like was there was a spring that keeps the numbers locked together and the spring was stuck to where it appeared the numbers were left to run at will. What I did was clean every thing up and set it at 94,000 miles which is more than I put on it. Like I said, I don't plan on selling it, I just want it close to where I will know how many miles are on it.

JAGUAR XJ S ODOMETER ( SPEEDO ) GENUINE DAC 6475 NEW | eBay
Looking for a such part on the web to change mine on my XJS Convertible (from the US) into kilometers I found out your post on the forum.
Are you aware that the reference DAC6475 is for kilometers but not miles?
I know I'm not the next door, but if you'd wish to exchange your odometer in kilometers against a well working one in miles... (I can send mine to you first).

I've two XJS's
- a 95 convertible from the US that's actually LHD and on which I've already changed speedo and odo using parts from a French wreck.
- a 93 coupe from England that I'm converting from RHD to LHD using parts from the same wreck. I found out a speedo background in KPH on the web, but the odo has already been used for the other one so I'd need one if I can find.
Hoping I'm clear... :-)
