Good evening. Long time reader, first time poster.
I have a 1990 XJS Sovereign which I purchased as a project car. The antenna recently broke and I am hoping to replace it with a fixed, low-profileantenna in lieu of replacing the power version. I'm thinking a shark fin could fit the look ofthe car well and was wondering if an aftermarket version was available and compatible.
Anyone have suggestions? Any are appreciated!

WHY DONT YOU JUST REPLACE THE MAST, YOU DONT NEED THE WHOLE ANT MOTOR. UNSCREW THE NUT ON TOP AROUND THE MAST, PULL IT OUT AND TURN THE RADIO ON THE OFF TO ACTIVATE(BETTER IF SOMEONE DOES IT WHILE YOU R WAITING MASY AT THE READY) AND WITH THE TEETH ON THE CABLEPOINTED TO THE TURN FEED IT IN AS IT MOTORIZES DOWN. ITLL PULL THE MAST IN THEN PUT THE NUT BACK ON

thanks for the replies.
I'm not sure about the shark fin enhancing the look. i simply want something that is unobtrusive to the look of the car...and minimizes future problems. I've never had good luck with retractable antennas. they tend to bend and break easily.
i guess my question was more one of compatability. Keith, you say any fixed antenna should work. does this mean the wiring should be compatible? this is my first jag and i'm unsure of all the connectors...

By wiring, if your talking about the electrical wires, they won't be needed on a regular antenna. Now. if your talking about the antenna wire itself, it might be different. I was looking at mine just today, and the plug located back by the antenna itself, is of a smaller pin type than the older style plugs. Locate the plug connection at the antenna, and check to see what kind you have. On my 85 XJ-6 the plug is just the same as any American cars antenna. But my 95 XJS has the small pin type of plug. You can always just unplug the electrical plug on your retractable antenna, while it is fully retracted into the fender. You'll get the low look, keeping it original, and, the reception isn't that much different, unless way out away from the radio stations. I tested mine, and around town the sound and quality was the same. Maybe out on a road trip might be different, but just stick in a nice CD and enjoy not having commercials.

Hey, I had the same problem last monthon my '95 XJS, and I replaced it with a fixed rubber "Euro Style" antennafrom AntennaX.com. The price was 15 bucks plus shipping. The great part is it includes a vehicle specific antenna plug, which plugsdirectly to yourvehicles plug. The only problem I had was getting a watertight fit in the antenna hole, but I used a couple of grommets I had laying around. The old power antenna asssembly was a pain getting out, had to pull back the trunk carpet. Hope this helps.
