Default Any consensus on when to replace the 'rubber' brake lines?

I'm guessing its more age related than mileage related. I know that different manufacturers use rubber lines of variable quality.

In any case, when do you replace your brake lines as a preventive maintenance item?

My understanding is that the Teves III system does not use a reservoir with dual compartments, so if a hose leaks, there is a possibility of loosing all brake fluid.

Lastly how many rubber hoses does the 1993 have? My understanding is that there is a rubber hose to

1. each of the two front brakes

2. near the front of the car related to the rear brake line

3. one near the rear subframe that 'feeds' the two rear calipers.

So four rubber brake lines in all?

thanks

I'm not sure what the manufacturer suggested, but these cars are way over 20 years old, and changing them can't be a bad thing.

Prudence suggests if you don't know when they were replaced last then replace them. The condition of the lines is largely dependant on time and the quality of the fluid in the lines. If there is any cracking in the rubber then replace right away.

If you have inboard brakes and Teves III then you have a 3 fluid channel system so there is one flex line for each front caliper and 1 for the rear subframe because the rear pair of calipers uses a single t'd fluid line.

You also have a rubber line under the reservoir.
You can buy a genuine kit of hoses inside the engine room.
