If the fuses are ok check 12 volts at the unit, people install these and can wire them incorrectly. Yellow wire will always have 12V and Red wire will 12V with ignition on. If there is 12V and the earth is good then the unit is most likely dead.

I want to get rid of the power antenna. It doesn't work, and I'd like to use the space occupied by the motor assembly for something else. What are my options? I was thinking:
1) A hidden antenna - something I could put under the rear parcel shelf, etc. Are they any good? How do they compare to an ordinary antenna? I like this idea the best.
2) A fixed full-length antenna. Not sure where I'd get one or how I'd install it.
3) A fixed stubby antenna. I like the low-profile idea, but I'm not sure I like the fat antenna styles in available in both black rubber and silver/stainless/chrome.
Most importantly - how good are those hideaway antennas??

It really depends on their quality. I welded up my antenna hole and have an on glass amplified unit seems to work ok. It is mounted on the windscreen behind the mirror.

When you say okay, do you mean as good as the regular antenna?
How can I tell a quality antenna from a non-quality antenna? Is there a particular brand to look for or something?

My on glass antenna cost about $30 on ebay but you can buy them here in Australia from auto stores like Supercheap Auto. I would think any good auto parts place in the US would sell them.
This is the one I bought
Metra 44 UA200 Universal ON Glass Amplified AM FM Antenna | eBay
It works well in the Metro area. I have not had it in the country, but in Aus it can be many hundreds (sometimes thousands) of miles between towns. So I tend to listen to recorded music.

First I would determine if it was the head unit or amplifier (I am assuming you have an amp with a premium sound system as I do not know specifics of models).
To do this you can swap the inputs to the amp. To do this just swap the front amplifier inputs to the rear (and vice versa). If the problem stays on the front the fault is either the speakers or the amp (it's unlikely that both speakers have failed simultaneously though not impossible). I would suspect the amp at this stage.
You can now swap the outputs of the amp front to rear. If the problem moves then the amp is faulty.
I hope this helps. Ask questions if you need help. Or take it to a professional.

Yes - you will need to cut a hole in the roof to mount it.

Hi jake 21
I have a 1992 xjs v12 and the stereo was working great when I stored it for the winter. I disconnected the battery. Come spring, the radio and cassette work fine but the CD exchanger gives me a code fault . I cannot find that fault number in my book. The cd exchanger loads and unloads ok but will not load the disk and function. Thanks Jake21

The bass sound in my 1996 XJS is pathetic. Are there speakers that I can install in place of the original ones that will sound better or do I have to find a place in the back seat area to do this with larger speakers.
Thanks, RagJag

Jake,
I am having a problem locating my Radio ID number to subscribe to Sirius in my 10' XF Premium. Contacted the Dealer, was advised that the number should be linked to my VIN. My audio screen shows Ch. 3 on the Home screen however I have no idea how to change to 0. Please help.. Thanks in Advance.

Hi Jake - and thanks for taking on stereo questions. I have a 2006 XK8 and the bluetooth works fine with my iPhone 4S for phone calls, but I can't find a way to play music from the phone over bluetooth. I can play music from the phone to a bluetooth headset. Is there any way to get the music to play through the car's stereo using bluetooth?

start by replacing the 4 stock speakers with new ones. Yes they are the same size but speakers have made HUGE improvements in the last 10 years. See how it suits you after installing a good brand replacement

Hi Jake 21,
I have a 2000 VDP with premium Alpine setup. I have replaced the head unit with a Clarion VZ503, the amp with an Alpine MRP-F240 and Rockford Fosgate speakers.
That said, I am now trying to put in an interface (AXXESS ASWC-1) for the steering wheel volume controls. It seemed pretty straight forward until......
Now the issue, on a standard XJ the volume wire is Red/White, but on this Alpine I don't have a clue, there is no red/white. The schematics I've downloaded say its supposed to be red/wh.
A possible issue, since I replaced the amp, cd and navigation setup, ....I'm not sure if the controls ran through the old amp. May this be a no go because I've unplugged the system? Or can I get into the steering column and intercept the red/wh (?) leads coming off there?
Thanks for any assistance... : )

Hi FeargO,
Did you ever get a fix for your audio problem? I ask because I have problem that is somewhat similar on an X-Type. I originally posted in another thread (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-start-110982/) but, the basic details are:
I know this forum is for the XJ series but I'm out of ideas, so I hope any XJ owners will forgive me.
Thanks
Mike

- On starting up and selecting any radio channel, all I get is a crackling sound for a few seconds and then silence.
- Selecting the CD changer or the internal CD player gives the same result.
- Sat nav works but the audio directions are have a swishing sound followed by a very muted audio.
- Jaguar Voice works but there is no audio feedback.
- Running the BAND+EJECT test and cycling through confirms that all components of the audio system are being detected.
- The system seems to work in every way except for the lack of sound.
- Fuses seem to be okay.
I know this forum is for the XJ series but I'm out of ideas, so I hope any XJ owners will forgive me.
Thanks
Mike

Jake,
I have a 1.2A drain on my battery when my 2001 S-Type is "asleep". I have isolated it to the 20A mini fuse in the PJB in the passenger compartment.
Is there anything else I can do or any suggestions as per instructions to give to my mechanic?
Thanks in advance for any help.
