Bewildered
HI all,
Hi Tech guys,
I have a 94 XJS Convertible 6 cyl. I was on a country drive on Saturday and had a case of the stalls. I found that if I unplugged the Coolant Temp Sensor
the car ran well enough to limp home (about 40 miles away).
Upon some inspection yesterday I found some oil in the air intake and hoses. Done a little research and it seems to be a common issue. I cleaned the grim out and nothing has changed running-wise. I have noticed that with the CTS, MAFS and vaccum line to the Fuel Pressure Regulator disconnected that the car runs just a little better, but still no where near normal. What should I chance after next?? Any thoughts are much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony in NM

Hi dtony
With the Vacuum line disconnected from the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) you are going to be running 'Rich' as your Fuel Pressure in the Rail will be increased, so you really want to have her running right
Are you getting any Vacuum from the Vacuum Pipes and can you borrow a gauge to check your Fuel Pressure
Maybe the 'Over-fueling' is 'Sooting' up the Plugs, could you pull a Plug and take a look

If the car runs better with the vac line to the FPR disconnected you might have a fuel issue. Possibly dirty injectors.
The way I would approach this is to check each system, fuel, ignition, wiring/sensors one at a time fix any issue you find along the way then move on to the next. This methodical approach will fix the issue. Bumping around with a bit here and a bit there is a shore fire way not to get it solved.
