Default Bit of a wee one tonight

Just finished last month rebuilding the brake system and all the suspension bushes, ball joints, shocks, tie rod ends, etc.

To top it off, I bought a new set of Cooper V-rated tires.

Tonight the front left blew out on the Capital Beltway (around Washington DC.)

Bit the retaining wall at about 70. Seriously thought I was going to flip, but managed to keep it under some control and not hit anyone.

The left front is severely smashed; both drivers side rims are demolished.

Pics to follow in the morning. Right now myself and a 6 pack of Smirnoff Cranberry are commiserating.

My car had only 50,000 miles on it, and was in pretty much perfect condition.

How long ago were the tires installed? Bad tire or improper installation?

Tires were installed two months ago. Put 150 miles on it and then placed it in storage. Just got back to the US last night. Taking it out to dinner tonight when this happened

Bugga.

Always a sad, sad moment.

At least you have the drinks under control, might need more than a 6 pack I reckon.

Im glad you are ok! Glad she didn't flip! Glad that divider wall caught her and not oncoming traffic! As long as you're good, she can be fixed!

Here's what she look like. Trying to get her limping today to get to a frame shop.

I'm only here with her for a couple of days before I head off again. I'll be back this way in a couple of months to see what progress a shop can make.

I'll spend the time looking for used body parts...

If I could get this home to Uganda, I'd be able to have it completed in a month. Unfortunately, this is currently stored in Baltimore. And I'm there for only a couple of weeks a year.

But, I just got my S600 in Uganda running, so this is the next project I was looking for...

But, seems definitely fixable. The good part !!!

David Boger at everydayXj is down the rod from you. Many parts
there. A good guy and lister. His necropsies and tutorials are of immense help.

Check your bonnet (hood) latches; the impact may have been enough to damage them or even buckle the bulkhead slightly which will make it very difficult to get the bonnet to line up properly.
The rest of it should just buff out!

Theres a good jag dedicated shop up in Rockville, MD. About 10 o'clock on the DC Baltway. While he may not do body work, there's a ton of bodywork shops immediately around his shop. (A bit of an industrial park area of town)

Let me know if you're interested in his info offline and I can send you the contact info. I've used them and they're pretty straight forward. Might be worth a call just to see who they could recommend for the bodywork?

Ok, I'm back in the states to tackle this project.

It's been in a local frame/body shop for 6 months. Nothing has been done to it. I managed to get a good fender from Pauls Jag in Sept.

Last night I found a 1991 Coupe on CL. Had it delivered to Baltimore and am going to be stripping it for the bumpers and wheels.

As I have no need for the 1991 and have no place to store it, it will go up for sale soon.

Pics to follow...
