Ok, after crusing the streets tonight I decided the next on my list is to swap out the radio. I miss my mp3s. Having the right tunes is all part of the experience.

So...how involved is it to take out the original cassette deck and pop in an MP3 player deck? Im hoping to just drop into JBhifi (a kinda electronic superstore ) pick one up and pop her in.

What do you have left when you rip out the deck. 12v plug and speaker wire connection or is it a little more complicated?

I think the Goose would enjoy some 80s tunes! Lol

If you find the XJS sport wheel it's about a 4 minuet swap...easy, peazy. Direct swap out. BIG difference in the "behind the wheel" experience. I swapped one into my 87 XJ6 Series III also.

Here's one in AU, a little pricey, I paid about $120 US for them in the past

Earlier in this thread I was going to ask why the hell you guys are so nostalgic for cassette decks. The sound quality is awful, no random access sucks, and the tapes warp. Glad to see you've come to your senses.

Just make sure you get something that matches the interior: Blaupunkt and Nakamichi make some elegant, understated head units that look right at home. Vintage Alpine is good too. Some of their brochures featured the XJS ski slope.

Well the adventure continued today, and what a day it was. I got all my paperwork sorted out now to be registered in my own name and state.I got to give the Goose a fair bit of highway driving and she did me good.

Even more exciting was I finally got to meet the Jag Forum's very own, Clark (01xjr).

We met up and talked Jags (as ya do) and I got Clarke to show me a thing or two about the Goose. We found where that tube went. It WAS for the battery breather. My XJS has one connected to the battery and one connected to the battery tray. We also worked on a few other things I had questions about and I found Clarke was a real wiz to say the least! He surely taught me a bunch in just the few hours we tinkered.

After that it was off for a cruise which was awesome to say the least. I believe it might be the first time two forum member's cars from the same region have met up for a Cruise! Real cool, and it turns out Clarke was a top bloke too! I think this is gonna be the first of many cruises!

Queensland, beautiful one day,perfect the next.....and that's the middle of winter.
Nice day,2 old Jags,2 guys who have weekdays off,a drive up a mountain and cold beer I didn't pay for. And no wives or kids to be seen!...visit a parts shop,an Auto supermarket,chat to a retired mechanic and look at his cars. Pull bits off some one else's car(some would say "living the dream"). A good day was had by all.

Exit strategy. Paul,you have to plan that decent from my garage long before your back wheels go over the edge as all you can see is the rooftops across the street. Once your over the edge its too late,and if it's wet you only get one shot at it.
Some people(I can't mention names, it's one of those subjects best left alone if you know what I mean) have got it a lot less wrong than you and ended up a lot worse off.
As for my parking on the hill top,I didn't notice at the time how close I came to reversing over that 4 foot drop behind us.

ha ha ha....I was crapping myself going down your drive way! It was a test for the Goose now wasnt it?

Mate I was real impressed by Fireball. I reckon she looks just as good in the photos as she does in real life.

Well, tomorrow it will be some new Pirelli 600's, then off to Auto Barn for a blanking plate for my engine filler tank.

Finally, in between the school run, i might be able to duck off to Jb Hi Fi and pick up and $88 Pioneer MP3 player so that i can play all the 80's hits from 1985!

I have to say I agree. The stock stereo sucks. You would think a high end car would have a high end sound system. But thats not the case.

The Blue Goose getting her new PirellI P600s.
Only one was really borderline but I did the pair. Got the fronts to the back and the new to the front.

Also used the good old rear tyre as my new spare.

Almost time for some broom broom again!

Paul,

I dont want to be a wet blanket, BUT, that scissor lift worries me a LOT.

Have a CLOSE look under the Goose at the panels. There are fuel metal lines in that area. The RH is the SUPPLY, and the LH is the RETURN, and those lifts have been known to crush them, so NO broom, broom.

One of mine, Haydns in Tassie, Murrays, Brians, Lindsays, Kevins, are the ones I know of that have been caught, plus some Sedans, as the layout on the EFI cars is the same.

ok if the operator puts the rubber pads in the correct places (HAHAHAHAHA), but most have NO idea.

Ok it all seems ok. But damn i feel like a bit of a doof! My heart skipped a beat. Im not 100% sure but if you look closely in the pic (i took it on the way to the dunny) it looks like there is rubber being used. Again not entirely sure. The blokes were wondering what this dude was doing taking photos of his tyres getting changed so I was there only briefly lol!

Are you refering to the two large pipes either side, running along parallel as the go up into either side of the engine?

I checked up underneath just then, squashed a redback spider i found, but lucky I couldnt see any damage, however my eye is un trained.

Damn i will remember that for next time for sure. Thanks for the heads up Grant!

Well, these are the said P600s. Im happy with them.

One thing though....

I was driving on the way to Bob Jane yesterday, in the rain, and noticed when I pulled out on a slip lane, she started to fish tail a little. Now im not talking about hooning or anything, but i just put er down as I normally did, but being a bit slippery on the road.

I thought maybe it was the tyres, but after i got the new ones installed I had to run some errands and continued to take the Goose for a spin. Bloody crap weather at the moment so lots of rain.

When I took off from the lights, again not being stupid, but just giving her the gas, she fish tailed a little as well. (Just a wee bit)

I think I am going to have to take it easy with the v12 especially in the wet, as I was driving a 4 cylinder SUV before this, and ummm....yeah....they are a little different. Im not much a fan of driving in the wet anyways but yeah, as they say, with great power comes great responsibility.

Well, being that is is a pissy weekend the Goose is gonna have a little rest till Monday, when Ill cruise down to Auto Barn to pick up my blanking cap they will have in for me.

I hope as an act of the God it stops raining tommorow as i really need another excuse to go Goosin!

235/60R 15's bud.

Load rating 98. Speed rating W

Like i said i didnt really need to swap em out urgently but kinda gotta think for Pirelli tyres

Bloody expensive though!

Next week, it will be time to give the radio some attention so i can play those 80s classics!

In slippery conditions the XJS demands attention. There's grip aplenty as long as you're smooth with the throttle. No traction control on these things though, and a heavy foot is guaranteed to produce wheelspin, even in dry conditions.

Paul, you'll undoubtedly hear stories from folks whose XJSs have never even chirped the tires. Something is wrong with their XJSs. Be glad yours appears to be in good tune and exhibiting normal behavior.

As Flint has already said, a V12 "on song" is a wonder, that will scare the bejesus out of the careless handler.

That V12 is QUICK, trust me.

It has the XJ40 throttle discs fitted, which are WAAAAAAY bigger than the stock discs, and that really wakes that engine up SERIOUSLY.

THEN, it has the 16CU ECU in the boot, that wakes it up significantly more, as it processes the data 5 times faster than the 6CU originally fitted.

Too late now, but I have seen some serious digits on that cars speedo VERY quickly.

I think I said a long time ago somewhere on here, "It takes a seriously switched on handler to put the gas pedal TO the floor and actually hold it there", as that thing will seriously MUMBO anything out there once it winds up.

ha ha...the whole experience gives me "Goose Bumps". I mean im not really a hooner or anything but its nice to know the power is there when I need it.

My particular favorite...im driving through roadworks at 80kms per hour and every other ******** is overtaking me, cause in my area, nobody obeys the roadworks speed limits. Anyway....i see the 110km speed limit up ahead, and soon, all those that over took me whilst i was doing the speed limit, are but a speck in my rear vision mirror as I jump from 80km to 110km in warp speed. he he he he....love it.

So Grant, as you know i am but a beginner, you mean ECU as in Engine Control Unit? What do the 16 and 6 denote? (16 bits of data???)

And by ECU you mean electronic control? Where is the little black box located in the XJS?

I really gotta do some of this :
