Boot release latch

Boot release latch
Could anyone tell me what position the boot release catch should be in with the boot lid closed. I am talking about the latch you pull that is behind the number plate lights. With the boot shut should it be horizontal or in a vertical position. Much obliged in advance for any help.

Hey Brin... Mine is a 1990. I have in hand a trunk locking/unlocking mechanism/solenoid that is not bolted in, yet. At this point I have a key lock/unlock set up that didn't come with the solenoid. I'm having trouble figuring out the orientation and how the auto unit connects. Could you post a couple of photos of your boot locking set up?
If we have a same/similar set up, I'll have a few more questions after that as well. I lost a little part of the solenoid... I think a spring loaded ball bearing fell out of the unit when I was messing around with it. PITA

Sorry for not replying sooner. Work. I am in a similar position as I have just had the car painted and the sprayer stripped it all down. So I’m in the same boat hence the question. I will be concentrating on this area over the weekend and probably asking the same questions as you. I am sure between us and the forum we will get there. I will send you photos as I get there and hope you can do the same. I’m thinking of a run to my friendly breakers at the weekend just to refresh my mind lol !

Information will flow both ways and we'll figure this thing out... Hopefully I didn't ruin mine in trying to 'fix' it... I've done it before, lol...
I love the idea of fresh paint. Cheers Brother. Good for you!

I sat there and twisted and turned mine, scratched my head and this and that,,, couldn't have imagined that it would just hang out there like that... I also worried about the arm under neith it.
Thing about my mistake is that,,, well - on mine that wasn't fitted to begin, there is a circular frame (just like this but without the arm and plastic) that surrounds the lock barrel mechanism. In trying to figure things out I separated the solenoid and the circular piece, not knowing about a spring and ball bearing that fit into the slots on the actuator/solenoid arm. I have the spring but not the GD bearing. PITA...
But yes Man,,, this photo is helpful. Thank you.
Do you have it working as intended?

Good I'm glad it helped. My car is slowly slowly ,so as said before hopefully we can help each other. I was pleased to be able to offer some help as normally I am leaning on Greg grant warren and orange blossom for help. They must get fed up up at times but it never shows with the help they give. Let me know how you get on. I'm going to do a bit more in morning😀
