Brake bleeding
#3
Yes, I'm sure it's a MK3. I checked the XJS book but it refers to the shop manual for brake bleeding procedures. Unfortunately I don't have a shop manual.
So far I have replaced both front rotors, calipers, pads and wheel bearings. Pulled the old fluid out of the reservoir and filled with new fluid. Installed speed bleeders all the way round and bled left front, right rear, right front and left rear til all fluid was clear and air was pumped out.
Now when I depress the brake pedal the pump will run. It was functioning correctly before I replaced everything. I'm not that familiar with this ABS system but I'm assuming I may still have air somewhere in there or the accumulator just happened to crap out at this moment?

John, don't know about speed bleeders,but... when you bled the backs did you have the ignition switched on ? To bleed rears you must have ignition on and have an assistant(or a stick wedged from seat to brake pedal) then the pump can run and force old fluid out.
I have the manual on CD I will try and find time when I get home from work to post the entire procedure.
I DO know that I had issues after a mechanic who has "been bleeding brakes for 30 yrs" couldn;t get mine right. Finally did it myself with a helper and they are great now.

Les, finally got a chance to bleed the rear brakes correctly. No more ABS light and a nice firm pedal. I still get the pump running a little too often for my liking so it may be time for a new accumulator.
Unfortunately I suffered a Marelli rotor meltdown as I was taking her for a test drive to check the brakes. I guess I know what I will be doing this weekend. New wires, plugs, rotor and distributor cap are on the way.

Good news John, nothing like a firm pedal to boost your confidence with the car.I replaced my accumulator a couple of years ago without drama as part of the same 'fix the brakes' project.
Too bad about rotor,my car has Lucas ignition so can't offer any help there.Good luck and happy driving.

Assuming you have a PC running Windows. You simply simultaneously press CTRL and Print Screen on your keyboard. You will think that nothing has happened.
Now open MS Paint from your programs menu. Start/Programs/accessories/paint.
Go to Edit and click Paste. et voila!
You will now have your screen capture pasted as an image.
For best results if you want to post it to a forum save it as .png format (this will keep the file size down).
Just trying to help.
All the best,
Rich
