Default A/C Compressor relocation

Hey I don't post very often ( maybe ever ). But let me give short story. I have a 1986 xjs v 12 HE. 20,000 original miles. In this condition was a perfect candidate for my rebuild ( that is to make this GT the GT it was suppose to be). Back in high school( 70's ) I had posters of this car in my room. So anyways.
1) All suspension upgraded ( At this time springs and shocks stock but all bushings upgraded to higher duromitter )
2) Front and rear sway bars
3) Driven man exhaust ouch! ( But nice )
4) Removed ALL wiring ( and I do mean all )
5) Rear seat gone to make better use for electronics
6) All inputs from controls are now cat 5 cable to relay. ( no longer full amps to load going through my ****.)
7) New ECU Omex
8) No distributor required all info off 36 tooth wheel
9) Twin coil packs mounted pass side fire wall area ( to keep heat low )
10) Sorry will try to attach pics to explain.

Ok I'm looking to move my A/C compressor to the location that jagzilla did. HELP ZILLA

Im confused, you had a poster of a 1986 XJS on your wall in the 70's, you sure it wasn't a certain "DeLorean"?😉

Its been several years since I replaced the GM compressor with a Sanden, and moved it, so my memory is a bit foggy on the specifics. First thing than must be done is to remove the smog pump. Judging by your list of mods, I'd say you've done that already. I fabricated a bracket which bolts to the side of the block where the smog pump mounted, and it holds the 180amp alternator in the pump's old location, while allowing the compressor to hang below it, tucked in tight to the motor. I'm not sure that I have photos of the arrangement, but, I'll look through my pix over the weekend.

I found a couple pix of the motor on the hook when I installed it, and I was able to crop them a little, to show a bit more detail about the bracket, and where its mounted.

I made the bracket with one of my favorite fabrication materials, angle iron.

Hopefully, this will give you some ideas about how you might want to do things for your project.

I'm in Citrus county. Inverness / Lecanto. Jagzilla thanks for the reply. What unit did you use and did you run into trouble with belt tension. Thanks for the response.

I can't remember the model number. Its just a Sanden compressor I picked up on ebay. In my setup, the alternator and compressor pulleys are on the same belt, and the tension adjustment is via the stock arrangement on the alternator. You will want to install an idler pulley either between the alt and compressor, or, between the compressor and the crank, in order to increase the contact area of the belt on the compressor pulley, and reduce the possibility of slippage under load. Another option would be to realign the compressor pulley so that it hits a different groove on the crank pulley, and run a separate belt for the compressor. But, then you have to come up with a way to adjust the tension on it.
