Caliper type for 1993 xjs 4.0 convertible
Hi folks , having problems with a sticking drivers side front caliper , I am about to remove it and the other front caliper to strip and overhaul but have been told that this model had different front calipers to all other XJSs - is that so ?
i will also change the system brake fluid as the car has been very lightly used over the last couple of years and although its only done less than 60000 from new i'm sure it needs it . DOT4 required I understand .
Are overhaul kits available for these calipers and any recommendations re Brake pad manufacturer .
Thanks for any advise received and hope all you fellow Brits get out in this lovely weather we are having, goodness knows we dont get much of it here !

Dear Vezac,
I recently had my front brake rotors and pads replaced by my local European Motors dealer and they had no problem getting parts. They did have to remove the hub and wheel bearings to do the job and the cost was around $500.00 (US). The brakes work just fine now.

Last year when I was looking at new pads, discs (rotors), calipers and bearings, I found this post to be quite helpful.

The poster begins by trying to get input regarding brake pads. The last few posts, after project completion, go on to discuss the entire brake job.
Briefly, as mentioned before, the calipers are the same. Rebuilding the calipers is "significantly" more expensive than rebuilt replacement units. And, replace the pads on all four "corners".
Good luck,
Bill
