Camshaft pins

Camshaft pins
Dear,
we are ready fixing of cylinder heads and have to assemble the engine. This is V12, 1976, pre-HE engine.
Now the question. During dismounting found out one of the pins between camshafts and sprockets was missing. What is the purpose of this pin?
We can not find it as spare part, how important is this pin? You can find this pin at the scheme as number 11. Best Regards, Stan

That is a mighty long hole the factory had to drill through the camshaft for an oil passage if it was a forging.
Easiest to drill from both ends, so you need a plug in each end.
For a camshaft that is cast you can probably make the hole in the casting pattern. However such a long small hole might not end up being totally clear, so you might run a drill through it from both ends to be sure. You still need to plug both ends.
It is a low pressure oil gallery, easy to make a plug out of anything. In the factory they would use an interference fit. I would make an undersize plug and use bearing grade Loctite.

Stan,
This has bugged me all night.
Went to the shed, found an OLD, like me, Part Book, the printed type, not this online rubbish, and there are 4 plugs per engine, from carby to late 5.3. It does not cover the 6ltr.
My original thoughts were that the A Bank shaft "MAY" have an oil bleed hole to lubricate the "wet side" of the chain, and that plastic Boomerang, but it appears NO.
Have fun.
