Hello, first time posting. Changing the half moons and the banjo bolts on my 1984 XJS. I can’t get the bank A banjo bolt in. It just won’t go over enough to the right to sit near the hole. Anyone had experience with the same issue? I hope the photo can explain the issue clearly. It’s taken from above. The green line is where the hole is and red where the bolt is at it’s furthest point.
I NEVER touch those bolts unless the engine is OUT.
Access is near impossible.
They dont leak, unless messed with. The oily mess is the D Seals on all those I have worked on.
BUT
Release the trans mount centre nut, the BIG one, then jack the trans as far into the tunnel a sit will safely go.
That will change the "angle of the dangle" of the rear of the engine, and move it SLIGHTLY up and forward, and if the Jag Gods like you, enough room to do what you are doing.
If that works, DO NOT tighten those bolts too much, they barely have 4 threads grip in the tappet block, and stripping them is easier than spilling your beer. Longer banjo bolts are out there, but engine out is the only way with them, there simply is not enoogh clearance to juggle 2 copper washers, bolt, and bajo otherwise.
I’m actually using the longer ones, Bank B was a breeze but A is just…
I’ll give that idea a go and see what I can do. Although there’s not much space, I did manage to get A side bolt in before I got in this predicament, but it didn’t sit right so didn’t want to tighten it up. Pulled it out to try again and here we are.
