Heh heh.

Not that I would ever really expect anyone's life or Jaguar to hang on MY words but, ahhhhh....yes.... there's just SO much satisfaction in knowing that people don't take the time to read that which others have taken the time to write.

Well, it's easy enough to miss a posting here and there, I know.

I'll stop now before everyone starts thinking that I'm actually as petty as this posting must sound.

So Doug,

do you think I should get a main relay as well as a pump relay then?

What other reason's are there for the fuel pump not running while cranking even though it does the initial run on turning the ignition on?

Get a main relay if you want...they're not expensive....but what I would really suggest to to check the circuits and find out what's going on.

If you have a test light or multimeter I or others here can suggests some checks that might help narrow down the problem....such as the white/red wire from the starter realy as previously mentioned.

Hi Doug and others that have offered their help, sorry I have not report back to you recently, but I had been at wits end with this car of mine, felt I had done everything and was running out of ideas (and Money)as to what to do to resolve the problem of getting the old girl running again.

I had seem to have done everything and felt I had replaced everything, even had the ECU checked out 3 Times! - It was deemed each time to be working. So I left the car alone for another few months.

Finally I managed find a Jaguar Specialist and in particular an XJS/V12 Specialist about 35 miles away from me. So having managed to raise some more money, over and above the fortune I had spent already, got the car lifted and delivered over to Paul, (Hyper Engineering, Thame, Oxfordshire, UK,) late one Friday afternoon. The car was confirmed delivered to him that same afternoon, just as he was closing his workshop for the weekend.

Paul had said he was very busy, but would try to have a look at it for me as soon as he could get to it. So I had not expected to hear from him for a good while, but about 11am on the following Monday morning I got a call from him, asking me, when would I would like to collect my car, which he said was now running perfectly -I couldn't believe it!

I asked of course, what he had found wrong with it and he said, though I had told him the ECU was tested 3 times and found to be in working order, he said he had often found them sometimes, to have deep rooted faults that did not always show up on testing, so he decided the first thing to do was to fit a known working, second hand ECU he had at his garage and when he subsequently turned the key, she started first time!

He said she was not initially running perfectly, she was missing a little on one bank, so he changed the Distributor Cap and Rotor Arm with new, such items I had pre-purchased and sent along with the car and that was it, she was by then, running perfectly!!!!

Before I could collect the car though, it needed a new Certificate of Road Worthiness (we call it an MOT) which initially threw up a couple of minor faults, which he sorted and had it re-tested and that was it!

By Friday afternoon, of that same week I was driving home from Paul's Garage in my now, Really Lovely, Beautiful (I had had a few other, more colourful, names for it when it had its problems I must admit,) Bright Red XJS Convertible. I have now been using it on a daily basis, even had the roof down one Bright, Sunny, but Milder of our currently, Winter days, for some two months now, without so much as even a second time start!

So there ya go, the problem was found in the end! I have now re-joined The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club (based in the UK, but it is on the Net and is International) and attended one local monthly meeting with another to attend next week. - I am also looking forward to again attending, at least a couple of the forth-coming Summer Meetings!

But thank you guy's for your help, it has has been invaluable, because although a solution was not found through this Forum I have through you all, learnt a great deal about things it could well have been and the general workings of my car! - Plus hopefully, have found some great new friends!!!!!
