Cd cable location and placement of unit
A CD player pop up on Ebay and I bought it forthwith. Now all I have to do is find the radio cable in the trunk, it is not visible anywhere in the trunk and I do not want to remove upholstery unnecessarily. I have been told it is on the top left side??? If you know a better description of location I would be greatful for your info
In addition to the cable where was the CD Player placed by Jaguar. I am trying to keep this car as close to original as possible

Helps if you say model and year..........
On my '92 its in the left trunk compartment near the left rear light (facing forwards). After years of it just velcroed I fixed it properly together with the tool box using this....
The fixing hole are not there pre '93.

I looked in the location you gave before, but did not find it. Will send wife out next time to look. Wives can find anything!
Is that the original bracket to hold the player? Looks like more Jaguar overkill. I don;t think I will find a bracket so I plan to put it in the space on the left side and hold it in with a metal strap, but can't do anything until I find that cable
Thanks for the info....will keep looking!

Have you lifted the carpet in the side well. The bracket is great, it holds the player and the optional tool box and then is covered with trunk carpet.

Found the darn thing! it was half way between the spare tire and the left tail light high ur under the trunk ledge. Still waiting for the player to arrive
Didn't know there was a tool kit with the Jag. I only received the jack tools in a carpet bag. Don't know if the '93 coupe came with a tool box.
I plan to mount the player in the alcove between the spare tire and the left tail light. Home depot sells aluminum flat bars that are easy to work. I'll form it to the case (rcetanglar U) and mount it with a couple of screws. That's the plan so far. I don't understand how you hid the changer behind carpet. Did you put it in the alcove and then place carpet over it?
Should I see a reasonably price bracket on ebay, I,ll go for it. I only paid $65.00 for the player and don't want to pay that or more for the bracket.
Thanks for your help

MALC4D: I sent a message to you, #7, but it looks like it got lost in cyber space. First I want to thank you for the assist. I bought a bracket on line before I read your offer, and I thank you for that. I have not seen an XJS since 1975 and am a little shaky on details. I don't even think they had CD's back then. Could you tell me the proper placement of the bracket and changer in the trunk, and also the location of the two holes you mentioned
Thanks

I did a little research on the toolbox and first aid kit. These items were offered in the UK, but not in the USA market. They are nice to have, but will not effect points when you show your car at Pebble Beach, California!
I take it that the player goes into the alcove on the left side for placement. Think I'll wear through away rubber gloves lifting the carpet.

On my 1993 XJS Coupe, it is really a big job to pull the glued down carpet to find the CD bracket mounting holes as indicate by malc4d in Reply #8 above. I could drill holes through the carpet and use blind rivets to secure the bracket, but drilling new holes introduces the opportunity for rust. I also do not want to get under the car (My age is a factor) and pull the muffler to find the holes. My solution is to use a needle and tap through the carpet and find a hole. My problem is that I have no idea where the holes are.and I have been doing a lot of searching with the needle. If somebody with a factory installation could pin point just one hole for me, I would be appreciative

There are two partisans and a tire that have to be removed. I tried from the well side and the carpet went back and down to the floor without a grip. The trunk side will not budge and I would have to remove the foregoing item I mentioned. If all else fails I can always drill a hole and dribble primer down.
I looked on ebay at some xjs. One person covered the whole left side of the trunk with a flat matching carpeted board and a rectangle removed for the face of the player.Looked sharp, but I wonder wher he got the matching carpet????

That panel was available from Jag. It was fitted on later cars with the CD fitted from the factory. The one l bought also took the toolbox as pictured above. The rattan carpet to match mine l got from a scrap car.

I have a '92 convertible that came with the factory installed CD changer and I have the changer and the carpet out of the trunk at the moment. If you still need help pinpointing where the mounting holes should be I can probably get some photos by mid-week. I assume it would the same as a '93. My VIN ends 184xxx.

Thanks Noah
There is no need to go to all that trouble just measure from the edge of the ledge to the the hole closest to the edge of the trunk, and from the same hole to the forward edge of the carpeted tail light cover or any other way you deem appropriate. Once I locate the first hole the others will fall into place with the bracket. If there is no hole, I will have a starting point to drill
I sincerely thank you, Noah, for your consideration

PS I have a VIN 186xx
