Center console Ski slope drink holder modification
In between other jobs on XJS shooting brake project I completed a mod to the stock ski slope to add cupholders.
I welded in a piece of steel where cut outs for ash tray's were, then traced hole and cut with a grinder. Cup holders were off eBay, they are ubiquitous as they are used by RV'ers.
Wood is PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) mahogany veneer. Thats going on all interior wood trim.
Finish is satin spray polyurethane and I deliberately left pores in wood exposed. I might try an even flatter clear if I can find one that is easy to apply. I love the flat wood look on new cars.

I have seen a few Made in China (great designed , lattice and double top)
yet the side were open pore and rough... not what you want in your guitar..
thought I would pick one up and refinish the sides....
to make them smooth and a deep glassy finish...
(you will think this is funny) you add the GLASS SHPERES.... to the clear coat to fill the pores
like the sound deadening...

on finishing Guitars the open pores or GRAIN normal are not left in that nice rough state

I've had good luck finding veneers on eBay. Otherwise places like Rocker.com and Woodworkers Supply often have burl veneers.
How large a piece do you need? I might have some stashed in the garage.

Hi Mac Allan !
Thanks for the offer!
I'm looking at redoing the 2 strips on the doors which have the Burl type
of veneer. They are about 1-1/4" wide X 29" long.
For some reason they are showing a fade and cracking near the door jam area.
So, a piece 2-1/2" wide X 29" long would do nicely.
I can pay for shipping and some towards defraying the cost of the
materials.
