Center Vent Substitute

I bought a 1987 Center Vent for $12.00 on eBay; it is identical to the 1993 model. Modified the Center fix vent of the 1987 by removing the center bars and fusing the two movable vents together and putting them into the center. Put the outer vents of the 1993 into the outer slots of the 1987. That gave me four movable vents. Not a hard job, but takes a lot of measuring and finish work.
To remove the wood overlay I used a plastic 90 degree trim removal tool an slipped it under the glove box side

Take the two end vents out of the new unit. Cut about five cm off the end of one and glue it to the other. Now you have two vents as one piece. Remove center slats from main body. Use one slat to make two adapters to hold newly made center section (small square with hole in middle) Glue adapters into main body center area. Place new vent in center section. Remove end vents from car's unit and place in newly made unit. Fail safe: You only cut the new unit ; the car unit is not used until work on new unit is completed.
The plus: the older model unit is about $12 to $25; the later model is over $100

Yes I agree! I'm 92 and i have a Samsung cell phone S5 I can call out and take pictures. Never learned how to put pictures on internet. Most friends dead anyway and those living are still trying to learn their phones...but I digress!
I thought I sent a good word picture. What you wind up with is three movable vents The center has two vents glued together. Each will direct air right or left but will work as one unit up and down Also in the center you must cut one vent about approximately 5cm shorter to fit into the frame or cut 2.5cm off both and join them in the center. The hardest part is cutting the vents at a perfect right angle and getting them to fit.into the case. Also note there is a small wire spring in the vent to secure the 1/4 inch nipple in the hole. I only cut one vent and glued directly to the second vent You can also reinforce the joining of the vents by using a slat that you removed as a brace at the joining point. You can also use a slat to make two adapters for the 1/4 inch hole need to rotate the newly constructed single vent

92! You must be the oldest member on this forum. Congratulations! You win... uh... [to be determined]. That explains how you could be a Korean War vet, I guess. (your current rank of "Senior Member" is quite apt, here - and as an added bonus, will remain so when you become a "Veteran Member"....)
While adding photos to threads itself is easy, I don't know how you would do it from a cellphone. Unless you can upload the photos (or sync the photos) with Google Photos, for example, then download them to your own computer. If you're writing these posts from your phone, then I'm afraid I have no idea. I'm not as tech-savvy as young whippersnappers like you with your "smart" phones and all that.

Current rank: Major USAF Ret. WW2 and Korean Vet bullet hole free! Think there are guys older than me on this Forum. Last guy I had lunch with was an Army retiree; he was 103 and still driving! He died a year ago. I think he was shot by a jealous husband. In reference to the dash. it had a small radio at the center bottom and a lefr /right switch in the middle. Looked good enough to come out of a Rolls. Good talking to you and thanks for the help on the dash.
