Default Check your fuel line!

Working on diagnosing any thing that jumps out on my (new to me) 91 XJ-S and I knew I would do the fuel injector kit but holy cow, I didn't realize how close I was to a major issue. First pic is the condition of the hoses, obviously need to be replaced. Second pic, apparently someone wrapped another piece of hose and clamped it on...Guess she won't be running anymore until I get this redone.

This will be a good time to inspect, and probably rebuild your fuel injector wiring too.

I suspect when I go to the effort of removing that I'll also work on a few other items. In for a penny in for a pound as they say.

My god thats a full on blaze waiting to happen.

as with most Jaguar things...while you're there...do yourself the favour of having the injectors professionally cleaned and rebuilt. Wiring is an option to after 30yrs.

I gained nearly 10% fuel flow improvement after mine were rebuilt. There is a filter inside the injector that is always forgotten about.

As for your hose do it all. Buy a spool of proper fuel hose, fuel in and out, injectors, THE TRUNK! Dont forget the trunk lines.

This is exactly why "replace fuel hoses" is always suggested as a must-do !

As Doug has said,

We been warning on this for 20+ years, but so few listen, or even do them.

I keep thinking "I NEED TO DO THE LINES ON MY 4.0!" However most of the fuel line posts I've found have been V12 related. Several of the ones I found for the 4.0 were basically "I changed my fuel hoses" type deal. I'd like to have a better grasp on what's needed and what's involved before I tackle it. Mine "LOOK" ok, but they are still 27years old, so they need done.

Interestingly on my 4.0L, I cut into the seemingly good factory fuel line to install an external check valve, and to my surprise, it was in better shape than I had thought. The car has 192k miles and has lived in California since1993.

I'm not entirely surprised. The V12 engine bay is an absolute oven. Everything gets the crispy treatment. Six cylinder cars, less so.

Cheers

look at your ruel line hoses over the rear wheel assembly and the jpnut and return lines in the engine bay. Prevent a tragedy .
