Convertible roof handbrake switch

Convertible roof handbrake switch
I have an 89 convertible. As it is being restored there is no interior. To enable me to work the roof I was wondering if I could do away with the switch on the handbrake by just connecting the wires together and making it a permanent circuit and then just using the normal switch if that makes sense. Not being very electrically minded any assistance appreciated.

If you do that, then the handbrake warning light on the dash will be on all the time. Not sure if there is a difference, but on my 94 I grounded the signal wire to the convertible top ECU, so it thinks the handbrake in on all the time and I can raise or lower it without the handbrake needing to be on.

I looked at the diagram for an 89, it is also the black/white wire going into the module. Ground that and the pump will run whenever you activate the switch.

[QUOTE=Jagboi64;2212151]It could, but there is no need. If you leave the switch connected, then the warning light will come on when the brake is applied and you won't forget to release the brake.

Just double checking it is black and white and not black and green as in other post and I've read diagram correctly. Cheers.

I've had a look at mine. The set up is different with it being an 89 and the pump is under the cubby box. There is a black and white wire that comes in from the direction of the handbrake, I dont know if you can make it out in the photo. My question is would you not achieve the same result by simply snipping the black wire at an easy to get to point and earthing it ? Or have I missed something.? Does it matter which side of the connector its earthed?

I’ve finished setting all the windows and lubing them all up. Tested each on by powering them up via a battery and all worked great. Thought I’d connect the treble switch up and give the windows and the hood a proper workout. I know the hood worked previously. Plugged it in and nothing. Neither the windows or hood worked. Any suggestions? I haven’t checked the fuse, not sure which it is or where or what size. Does it supply windows and hood? Any ideas? I think it is something obvious. Thanks all.
