Where did you connect the battery? The hood ECU get power from ignition feed, so the battery should be connected as usual and ignition on and car in park or neutral. Is the module getting a good ground/earth signal on the B/W wire?

I connected the battery in the usual place. Didn’t check it was in park or neutral. Will also check the earth. Why didn’t the windows work? Are they all connected?

Windows are controlled by the hood ECU on a timer, so it's a case of it all works or nothing works.

Door windows are completely independent of the hood. Up to VIN 156988 there is a power window relay, the relay after that also powers the cigar lighter. The relay should be on the right side behind the undescuttle trim.

The relay is triggered by the ignition switch power, so perhaps you have a faulty ignition switch or power isn't getting to it somehow?

I've had another go this morning. Re connected the battery and switches and the passenger window worked. Went to check for power on the other side and noticed the body shop had the plugs wrong way around. Swapped them and they presto both windows work. Roof still no go. I've checked the micro switch for continuity and it was ok. Checked the roof switch with one of the windows and that was ok. Swapped the wires around on micro switch still nothing. Not sure if I heard a click in the boot or not?? Any suggestions?

So the black/green wire coming out of the module needs to be removed and grounded?

GM
So I removed the black/Green wire and then connected it to a ground.
However it made no difference.
I still have to engage the handbrake to raise or lower the top.
What did I do wrong?
BTW my Jag is 1996 XJS
Would appreciate any help u can give me
Thxs

Variety,

Are you doing this at the hood ecu or at the handbrake switch?

In theory you can set the signals with bridge wires at the hood ecu to bypass, the Park/Neutral signal and handbrake signal to allow hood operation irrespective of the position of those.

So in my 1996 XJS it was the Black/White wire from the module that needed to be grounded.
The top goes up & down now without the need for the handbrake to be engaged.
So anyone with a 1996 XJS looking to do this, look for the Black/White wire.

Interesting! Glad you got it figured out! Soooooo much nicer to not have to use the handbrake everytime!
