Default Convertible Top (1994 XJS)

The convertible top on my 94 XJS is not working. The motor/pump only "hums" when I press the switch. The fluid in the pump is correct. I did notice the left hydraulic cylinder has been leaking (because the padding under the rear seat is damp). I switched around the up/down relays with no joy. Not knowing anything about the top, would this cause the top to only hum and do nothing else?

Any help of what to check would be awesome!

Maybe accidentally set to manual mode?

I did have the parking lever on with the ignition on and my foot on the brake pedal. The lever on the pump is on "power". It just "hums" when pressing the roof switch.

You don't need your foot on the brake pedal, but you do need the gear selector lever in Park or Neutral.

If the pump is humming, then it seems it is being activated by the ecu, hence gear selector position is correct and handbrake is on. Do the windows lower when you press the roof switch?

The rear windows were down with the top up. I applied power to each rear motor to get the glass up, but when the motor hums, the rear windows do not go down. I hear no activation of the motors.

PS I just bought the car from the previous owner who had the car for 14 years. He said the top never worked for him.
