Default Convertible top folding problem

Hi there,

I am wondering if you can help to solve my problem.

When I fold down the top of my 1995 XJS I have to push the back glass manually to have the roof fold completely

Thank you for you help

Cheers

Sylvain

Sylvain,

This sometimes happen if the hood isn't opened regularly.

A fold should naturally occur in the canvas under the rear window as the hood starts to fold. First of all, check that the retaining straps, which attach near the top of the rear window, haven't broken or detached. Then try and "train" the hood to fold at that lower point by encouraging the fold as the hood is lowered. Be careful, though, to ensure that the hood doesn't catch the top of the rear seat as it lowers.

Hi Paul,

thank you very much , the previous owners wasn't too careful and the hood made 2 tears on each side the back of the rear seat,
Your advice will be very useful

Cheers

Also as its a 2+2 the tops window can catch on the back seat if not adjusted correctly. I'm guessing that's why it has the tears.

I believe that that years model has the removable roof liner, so maybe it can be taken off to see whats happening. I would take it to a convertible roofing guy as l'm sure its not as easy to fix as it first seems.

Same Problem with my 1995

You have to assist the Hood/Soft Top down to avoid scuffing the Seat Backs, its a very common problem on that 1995 Facelift.
