Default Converting 1993 4.0 ABS to Non ABS

There was a great write up by Orangeblossom about converting his XJS to non ABS brakes.

Can anyone provide me with an URL to his writeup. I can't find it. Has it been removed?

His car had the later, simpler Teves ABS system on his 95 4.0. Completely different than the 93 ABS system.

not sure about your roadworthy laws in the USA, but wouldn't it be non compliant if you removed a feature such as ABS & also your insurance company would cancel your policy if you modified the braking system?

As jal1234 has mentioned, changing an early Teves ABS system as fitted to a 93 car, to non-ABS is a very different issue to the late system that OB has on his late 95-built car.

It's a personal choice but I wouldn't convert an early Teves system, even if you're experiencing problems. The potential system issues are pretty well understood and can be fixed.

I ran into a guy at a car show last year with a really nice, and clearly well loved and used, Cobra that I found out in chatting that he tracked and street drove quite a lot over many years.
Anyway, what caught my eye was a 3 channel Bosch ABS unit in it. This was from a fox body mustang I believe he said, but they were much the same for most of the world in that era.
Basically plug and play according to him, power, ground, a warning light, wheel speed input, few other simple things and it "just works".
If one wanted ABS and didn't want to deal with the un-normal Jag stuff, it sounds like an interesting option.

It is strange, when the weather gets dry and hot, the ABS lights go off and, once again I have cruise control. This is really odd.

Car ever get rained on? Could be a leak, or even just moist air. Electrics on old cars do funny things sometimes.

Yes, but when I bought the old boy, the Cruise and ABS were fine. . I'll bet that if I had the contacts on the ABS box cleaned everything would go back to normal. (This is just a guess).

Hi Guys

Although I removed the ABS from my 1995 XJS

Following the Advice from Paul (ptjs) I decided to Convert it back to ABS as per OEM Spec, as I managed to find myself a New Master Cylinder, which was the only reason that I removed the ABS in the first place

And though it was a very interesting exercise Paul (ptjs) was right and I was wrong, as well as removing it could have affected the Value as well as potential issues with Insurance

One of the Biggest Problems, is if you get Air in the System of this particular Teves, you cannot Bleed the System in the Normal way, as it requires the use of a Special OBD Machine that will Spin the Motor in the ABS as you Bleed it

Doubtless there is a 'Hack' somewhere but having been there and done it

My Advice for what its worth, is don't go messing around with the ABS and so apart from Changing Brake Fluid, 'If it ain't Broke Don't Fix it' or you could end up with a very expensive problem on your hands just like I did
