Coolant change, found a few things
That I have questions about.
First off, after reading many cautionary tales and warnings about changing the coolant and thermostats I am happy to say all went very well and really wasn't much of a fuss. My radiator has the drain on it, so I was able to drain the system easily. I changed out both thermostats as well. I took Grants advice and tested them for proper extension and removed the jiggle pins leaving about a 3/32" hole. The ones I took out look like originals to me. I searched this forum and found a refilling procedure by Doug, and it worked perfectly. My driveway is on a slight hill, so with the car sitting there it had about the proper lift, and I used a jack on the left side to bring it a couple inches higher and removed the bleed plug. Simple!
The system appears to be relatively free of any residue, so hopefully in the past the manufacturer's advice about the bars leaks was ignored. I also removed the metal reservior tank and flushed it out. In the process of doing this work I came across a few things that have me wodering their purpose-
I found these 2 wires disconnected and nothing nearby for a connection. They are right near the right side thermostat housing-
This is the front right forward fender well which I removed (finding out after it wasn't necesarry). What might this plastic flap be? It covers a recess in the panel and sits as shown. The only purpose I can think of is perhaps a place to hide a spare key?
Finally, behind that panel I saw all this stuff. I'm guessing it's emissions related?
