Question Corrosion body work and re-spray - Recommendations pls

Hi guys,
I have some corrosion at the wheel arches and rear wings. Im looking for a recommendation for a body work and respray specialist. Looking for partial respray on the areas worked on only. Looking for excellent quality of work and exceptional service only.

Located in the Midlands but willing to travel.

Many thanks

I did my own bodywork dont know if your upto it. Paul pennell advertises on e bay and sells replacement body parts. They are excellent and he will make a piece for any area you need. Just leaves you the paintwork then and at least you know it's been done right.

You did your own! Wow. Advanced for me I think, I can do many things but this I'll leave to someone else.
Would you consider doing mine please? Its not terrible but needs attention, I'll post some photos.

Thanks

Hi there,
Not the best photos You can see the clear rust damage. I just need it fixing because I so drive the car regularly. I don't mind if its not resprayed right away.

Passenger side lower is the worse of the two.
Also there is no longer water leaking anywhere in the car! So once done happy days!

Ok look forward to your response.

As you are giving a recommendation, it's within forum rules to add a relevant link to Paul Pennel's XJS Panel Shop in Northampton, UK:

https://xjspanelshop.co.uk/

This kind of expertise is hard to find and could be useful to members anywhere in the World.

Graham

This guy is excellent, Duke. You need these:
https://xjspanelshop.co.uk/shop/ols/...g-repair-panel

Installing them is not that hard, I would ask Paul to recommend someone, or if he cannot, ask Andy Harvey at Just XJS, not far from you at Burton, he will know someone for sure, maybe he can do it himself.

That is a common area and had gone on mine. Get a torch and try and have a look from the inside. Mine had gone up the side as well. You might have to take the back boxes off. Make sure when you get it done you put plenty of protection on both inside and out. If you take the paint off you may find it’s not necessary to buy full panels . Flat plate wouldn’t take a lot of forming if your just letting in some patches. There is a drain hole with a pipe down from the filler cap on my convertible, make sure that’s in place properly if you have it on your car.Don’t panick it’s not a catastrophe!!

Heres some of the repairs I did on mine. Took me 18 months of cutting and carving. I had to rebuild the bottom of the car basically. Didn't think it would end but the forum kept me going. Greg and grant are superb as are many others who help regularly on here. Taped to the windscreen you can see grants list of jobs to facilitate removing the engine. All off the top of his head lol.

And now I'm expecting all new carpets from Aldridge to be delivered Monday. Still got stuff to do but the end is in site thanks to those on here!!

I’ve done a number of DIY restorations but, looking at your pics, nothing as quite involved as yours. Just a curious question. Do you think it’s worth the time, money effort, and frustration to get involved with such an endeavor? Just asking from a personal standpoint.

One might as well ask if a day on the golf course is worth it. It is a hobby and anyone can stop any time; but if you are a car guy, the feeling of driving a car you have saved and restored, worked on and thoroughly understand, particularly when that car is as good as or better than when new, is a monumentally satisfying feeling. And remember, this is an additional buzz on top of the thrill of driving a really good, adequately fast, quiet and properly handling GT car. I never want to get out of mine, only poverty demands it!

I've got to admit it was a lot more than I expected but then again I didn't really think too much about it, just did it. Doing the body was the easy part for me as fabrication is my trade. When I first lifted the bonnet and saw the v12 I thought what have you done and nearly just sold the car. My son told me to calm down , give the car a wash and put it somewhere to work on. After that it was step by step. I will state categorically that I couldn't have done it( not finished yet) without the people on this forum. As Greg says its a hobby and you can stop whenever you want and quite often I'd curse and lock up and leave it for a week. Financially who knows, but I went under the car this week and was impressed myself with what I saw. Everything is new and in top condition and every area brings back some memories! I think I'd get my money back but it was never about that. It is a big thing to take on,but now I'm thinking about going to events in it next year. One things for sure you learn a lot and come across some very good hearted people especially on here so

yeah it is worth the effort.

The car would probably have been recycled by now if it wasnt for the likes of you Greg, grant, Warren, Alex, and many others who have suffered some stupid questions and helped me. One and all I thank you!!
