Craigslist LOL of the day.
1978 Jaguar XJ-S 454
so basically this joker is saying that his XJS is a cross between the weave of a cadillac, the impracticality of a vette, the rust prone chassis of a Chevelle, and the snob factor of a Rolls.
heres a thought, why not take the $20k and buy a used Vette, CTSV, restored Chevelle, etc? or how bout a real jag? XKE.
my favorite bit is when he starts getting into reasons why the earlier flathead chassis is better than an HE chassis. LMFAO.
lol. thats a plus when buying a 20k car with 34 year old suspension.
also, having to fix the AC and exhaust leaks on a 20k car is kind of a turn off in my book.
Now you can have the famous Jaguar ride (like a Cadillac) and handling (like a Corvette) plus the torque (of an SS Chevelle) in a beautiful and now easy to work on sports car with genuine Conolly Leather (like Rolls), decent back seat room and a huge trunk.

No tweaks to the stock suspension!

You have been misinformed.
Any pre-facelift car ('75-'90) was referred to as an XJ-S. The hyphen was dropped when the car was facelifted in '91, and the name became simply "XJS" from that point on.
Of the pre-facelift XJ-Ss, the pre-H.E. ('75-'80) cars were badged with an "XJ-S" rear emblem of which each character, including the hyphen, was a separate piece and part #. (The hyphen was part # BD47267 at first and then BD47704).
The H.E. pre-facelift cars ('81-'90) used an emblem made up of all letters and the hyphen joined.

not trying to argue, im not on either side just saying i think its funny when car owners have something particular on there own car so they assume 100% that it is corrrect. As for me..my 88 has a dash.
no saying you are wrong or right, idk but its totally possible the emblem was replace or even your whole boot lid was

as far the actual topic...this is retarded..
sometimes i am reluctant to be a hater because i like XJSs so compared to other cars even a screwed up one is great.
however to be completely honest i cannot stand V8 conversions. I dont care how easy it is or how much power it makes..its just LAZY and ruins the whole cars.
a 65 mgb is realistically slow as hell, it was nice in its day, but not fast anymore. Why mess with that? just restore it and enjoy it for what it is. I don't have problems upgrading the car and making it nicer or faster..but keep it relatively the same.
When you totally change an engine it gets rid of the heart and soul of the car imo.
newer cars idc really because they are new and tons of them around still. But every V8 xjs you see is another one less to me

i feel that the most disgusting sound in the world is an XJS with a loping V8. it makes me cringe. Even the straight 6 sounds way better.

I know I will get flamed for this... but here it goes anyway. I know there are a lot of modded "lumps" Jaguars out there. A lot of them have shoddy work, and hence the value goes down. But, before you trash them as a whole, you should try driving one. Look in "my garage" at my '85 XJ6 I converted. LOVED that car. Had it for many many years, did the engine conversion myself, and the car drove stellar. It was performance based, big HP, and I ran 4 mufflers and a mild cam. No way could you tell it was not stock without opening the hood. It was FAST, and a great (daily)driving machine, with no maintenace issues. I wouldn't mind having another! MC

I appreciate the "purist" point of view. Personally, I thought it made it a better, more powerful and reliable car. But, I have certainly seen my share of lousy conversions. I don't think it took the essence of the car away at all. Everyone that ever drove mine loved it. I wish I would have had an "S" instead of a XJ6 though.
