Default Cruise control removal

I just removed the cruise control servo on top of the V of the engine. The wires leaving from the unit and the air tube go to a little device on the left side of the motor, fitted to the left air intake manifold. In fact it has a tube that leads to the intake manifold. Can that be removed too or is it used for oher functions of the engine?

Best regards Fred

that is the device I'm talking about... it has wires going to the cruise actuator and a tube going to the intake manifold.

can it be removed if cruise control is unused?

My advice is to remove everything, including the bits you show in the photo, then connect just one vac hose from the spigot under the throttle body on A bank to the vac capsule on the dizzy. Also disconnect and tape off the two wires from the temp switch on the A bank rear water manifold. It will run fine and all that over compex junk can be removed. Remember to block off the large 1/2 inch hose that feeds the vac to the cruise control from a large spigot under A bank throttle body.

Hi Greg,

the device is only connected with 1 tube to the air intake manifold and a tube going to the cruise control servo. There is no tube going to the throttle body at all??? should I just remove it and close the hole on the manifold?

Yes, it will be fine to remove it and block off the manifold.

The point of removing the wires from the rear A bank water manifold is to disable the 15 minute enrichment timer (absolutely unnecessary)and thereby save fuel.

Not those ones, no. I am not sure what they are as I do not remember having them on mine before I removed all the many vac tubes and replaced them by a single manifold to vac capsule.

I assumed you have Lucas ignition. If you have Marelli, forget about the two wires on the water manifold. If you do have Lucas, here is a photo. See the two spade terminals on the LHS of the photo, sticking up out of the rear water manifold? Remove these and tape them off. What this temp switch does is enrich the mixture for 15 minutes if the water temp is below 45° or so. Removing the wires inhibits the system. They are easily accessible with the air filter cover removed (and a cold engine!).

Hi Greg,

Mine must have been one of the first marelli cars in 89, has two orange coils up front named Marelli.

I notice some orange sealing underneath your valve cover... Mine is also losing a lot of oil there... I will have to take care of that too...

The sealing is special high temp silicone and it seals the tappet block to head join, which was a metal to metal join OEM. Idea given to me by a friend who runs a Jaguar garage. Works really well, as this oil is not under pressure. As long as you do not mind the look of it, which I do not!

The valve cover to tappet block seal I redid with a new gortex gasket and longer bolts as recommended by the Great Palm.
