engine mods
Scott,
Thanks, I love my car but they were smoking something good when they design some of the electrical and mechanical things. The changes have transformed the car, the engine idles at 650 smooth as silk.
2 1/2" adapter plates, they are in the aisles, pep boys, autozone, etc. The regulator was ordered in ebay, $23, works very well and I did verified the pressure gauge and it was spot on. I have seen the plastic adapters in ebay also.
I am doing the cold air system in aluminum intercooler pipe, the pipe kit has several elbows and pipes connected with the silicone joints that allow movement. I am going thru the fenders and probably getting fresh air below the signal indicator, not sure yet.
No emission check here, I have been here since 99 and never had to have any of my cars checked.

i like it when someone modifies there cars, not just to be different, but also runs better.
hood louvers are kool(pun), lousy pic of some i been looking at.
my modded cooling system with tank mounted high in engine bay,any air bubbles that may form in heads or anyplace rise to the top, and stay there as air space for expansion.
fuel press. regulator, pretty much like yours, XS aerospace product, along with my injector rails extruded aluminum, custom injectors, etc.
fuel pump in trunk with hi-capacity filter, oversize lines aeroquip.
two elec.fans, so far no everheats, with internal engine coatings of chambers and ports,+ piston tops.
sorry got carreid away with mods.

Ron,
There's no such thing as getting carried away with mods if it improves the car. Thanks for showing us more of your car.
I would like to see more pix of your cooling system plumbing, particularly the high mounted expansion tank.
What do you guys say about starting a running thread named something like "FUNCTIONAL MODIFICATIONS" where anyone can post their mods, ask questions about certain mods, discuss probability of various modification success, etc,? I think it would be a great way of consolidating a lot of useful information and ideas into a one-stop-shopping location.
If we can get one of the moderators to make it a sticky at the top of the forum, that would be even better. *HINT, HINT*

Here is a picture of the grill and the rough cut on the louvers. This is with a stainless square grill in the louver but I am using the existing pattern I used in the front grill and paint it black. This weekend I should have the drip trays finished also. Not enough time for all the projects! Im waiting to finish the louvers so I can do the body work. It is incredible the amount of heat that comes out of the louver.
This morning I was reading an article on the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish, in this month's Car And Driver magazine, and I couldn't help but notice the similarity between your hood vents and those on the new Aston. If you could find a way to add a long, shallow bevel all the way around the opening, the similarity would be down-right scary.

louvers
Ron,
Great car! Stole a few of your ideas, thanks.
Scott,
I just looked at the Aston pics, beautiful car! have to play the lotto today. Here are a few pics of the louver progress, I will keep working on the grills until they are flush with the hood. It seems this would be the best look. The rain guards are also coming along.
note, tried adding pics not successful, will try again later,

JameyXJ6 and JagZilla,, the car with the red hood is not mine, but one with louvers that i liked.
the gentleman that owns it had the louvers actually punched in by,none other than Grp44 racing, in Sebring fl., but i think they sent the hood to a sub-vendor to do the work!
44 has many contacts in the custom car building arena,(also airplanes).
his car is a true work of art,
specs ,1986 XJS coupe, late model 6L ,1994 model, full upgrade of EMS,ECU fully adjustable by his laptop, many mods for fuelling and ignition system.
big exhaust system, cold air inlets, alumnium radiator, big fans,ETC.
trans. 4l80E,overdrive auto. alu.drivshaft, 3.54 gears.
adjustable shocks, poly bushes, P-zero tires.
Nice big GPS ,with an Invertor 120V, radar deteks, super stereo system, seats done in a tan-biege,with RED sparkle piping, very unusual but classy!
he ,himself is a work of wonder, in the middle of march he was in Florida(Palm Beach).
his son called from VAIL CO, to come and visit,(all snow there), son owns a large ski resort.
so he loads up the XJS and heads to the snow country,he got big ones, did i mention he is 83yrs old, and sharp as a tack.

Yeah! it would be a big job,.
it takes a powerfull punch press, with dies that are shaped to the louver desired, for one off presses, it would be expensive!
he has owned the car from NEW 1986, when he bought it, he bought TWO XJSs,one for him and one for his wife.
i'm sure he got a few bucks,a very reserved gentleman, but knows what he is doing!
all work on the car was by professional shops, some in Fl. and some in Houston TX.
and son owns a ski resort in VAIL, so that says something.
i felt special when he said take the car out for a drive, it runs and drives perfect and plenty of torque when needed.
horsepower sells cars,, torque wins races.

HEP, the best dyno pull was at only 355whp, others average around 325-330Whp,at the wheels. tuning did not change much.
personally, i felt, for the mods done, results were not as favorable as i expected.
me being used to modifieng american V8s, that get good returns for basicly the same type of mods,.
jag V12 just doesnt have a hi-performance cylinder head, now if some one(with big bucks) would step up and cast a completly differnt head design, along with inlet and outlet systems,JUST maybe it could make some power!
but begs the question WHY, when today there are many more powerful engines available.
even V12s are available, that put out lots of power, more than the 1960s Jag v12.
its a luxury car engine not a hi-performance engine.

injectors are Bosch style with O-rings top and bottom, much better than the hoses that original used, many jags met there end with fires in the engine bay, hi-pressure pump pumping fuel all over a hot exhaust manifold.
i just rengineered the fuel rails and injectors, and use the adjustable regulator to fine tune things! along with the adjustable EMS,ECU,of course!
thanks for the interest.
