Didn't know driving through a puddle could cause such excitement
I drove the Jag in to the office today, and called the specialty mechanic who keeps her going, as soon as I got there. The right rear wheel well/tire was SMOKING when I parked?! No real odor, and it looked a bit like a cool fog effect machine, but I didn't think smoke was a good thing.
Fortunately, I'd forgotten that the rear brakes are inboard, so that wasn't it - mechanic's best guess was vapor from going through a puddle or something wet burning off the exhaust, which does go up and over that rear axle and can get damn hot apparently. OK....if you say so...
Whatever it was, it didn't happen on the ride home, but I have to say that "huh" from your mechanic does make your heart skip a beat, even if what follows isn't necessarily bad news ...
But on a good note, the tape a friend made for our wedding, oh, 20 years ago, that we found while clearing things out for some home renovations, sounded AWESOME on the stereo system driving in :-).
