Default Differential seal

I have a new diff seal for my Jag XJS and the mechanic that is going help me fit it, he is going to make a tool to drive it in to the diff, what we need to know is which way its fitted, it has a red ring on on side does this red ring face inwards or to the outside.

Yes its still in, its just so the we can make a tool to fit the new seal to drive it in, I have just read other posts the the small amount of oil that leaks could be the worn splines, maybe i should just keep topping up the oil, not many people want to take this job on with me. Thanks Tom for the reply.

Not logical to have worn splines< if they are warn then that means the yoke was loose, how much does it take to top up and how often? you could always try a diff seal leak liquid if you don't want to replace the seal for now.
