That is a fantastic idea actually. I will contact them next time. In my area at least, it is difficult to find an example of any year that isn't busted up. I just don't get people...how can you abuse such a beautiful car.

Plus, I have not been able to move past the idea of replacing the top, tires brakes etc....yet he knew it needed an alignment and didn't just pay the extra $100+/-??? One of out last exchanges included the sentence "that's why I'm selling it As-IS". Game over for me. Just didn't feel right. Ill keep looking and hit this thread again soon. Thanks a ton for all of the insight! If only some of you lived close!
i would have been highly suspicious of him not wanting a mechanic to look at it. you probably made the right call on that one. if it was close by i might have still looked at it to see what was being offered. Im normally pretty good at spotting any issues on vehicles myself. and almost always spot more issues with vehicles that are being sold beyond what the seller claims. i have no doubt there was more issues than just a alignment on that car.

I ran into that as well. Being in Chicago, most of them had serious rust damage from salted roads. And the fact that I wanted the Cabriolet further compounded things. So I ended up flying out to Sacramento for mine and couldn't be happier. And, depending on how far away it is, travel expenses aren't necessarily prohibitive.

Flew out for both of mine and drove them back. 4 hours for one trip, a little longer and a radiator hose for the other Cherished memories.
