Do relay colors mean anything
#2
from my experience relays are just whatever color the manufacturer decides on. I've replaced reds, blue ones, white ones, green ones, and even clear ones that all got replaced by a standard looking black box. All that matters is whats on the inside

On an '89 I don't think the relay color is significant. As Sidescrollin' says, it's what's inside that counts. Virtually all have a diagram showing the circuit .
Jaguar threw in a few oddballs with diodes that should not be replaced with a generic relay. On the 80s vintage Jags the relays with diodes were identified by a diagonal stripe painted on the case.
Also, be particularly aware the Jaguar used many relays with a 30-85-86-87-87 terminal configuration. In most cases these can not be replaced by a relay with the much more common 30-85-86-87-87A configuration.
All that being said.....
I strongly suspect that some of the different colored relays you're seeing are not relays at all. Jaguar often used timers and diode packs that look just like a relay and even used typical relay-type sockets/connectors...but they most assuredly are not a relay. I've seen these in red, blue, yellow, green.
On later Jags I'm pretty sure the relay color IS significant....but that's a diffferent discussion.
Cheers
