Do the XJS and XJ6 share steering racks?
It seems I can find steering racks that show fitment to both XJS and XJ6, but I have purchased lines before marketed for each that did not fit my XJS. While it would make sense to fit the same rack, I can see the angles in the XJS necessitating a different design.
Can anyone advise whether a series III XJ6 rack should fit an 88 XJS?

The Series IIIs used several different racks but as far as I can tell they're all interchangeable as complete assemblies and all will ir an XJS.
I think that some of the XJS racks had a different ratio....but, even if that's true, it shouldn't prevent a swap. XJSs with the 235 tires had spacers to limit travel so the tires wouldn't rub....but that began in 1989 MY so your '88 XJS wouldn't have them.
FWIW I have an XJ6 rack with V12 hoses and had no issues

Could be, I dunno!
I know there was a change to larger tie rods circa 1983 or so. Or was it smaller? Gah!. I always get confused but I know that there was a change in that regard!
